The holiday season is here, and after shopping for presents on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the time for giving really begins. This year, Giving Tuesday was an extra special day for charities and nonprofits, and in a year like 2020, more and more organizations are shifting their marketing strategies to highlight their communities and support those in need.

We scrolled through Twitter and Instagram to see how different brands and nonprofits celebrated #GivingTuesday this year, and how they plan to make an impact in the year ahead. Read through our favorites and consider learning more about these wonderful initiatives. The season of giving is just beginning!

St. Jude
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is a historic institution that impacts the lives of children around the world. This moving video highlights the tenacity and positivity of their patients that shines through, even on the darkest days.

This year for Giving Tuesday, their video game charity platform St. Jude PLAY LIVE partnered with a whole host of YouTube creators in an effort to raise 1 million dollars. When all was said and done, this interactive livestream raised over 3 million dollars! The creativity, camaraderie and social solidarity here is incredible.

Their Giving Tuesday highlight video said it best:

“Even in difficult times, your support keeps us together.”

Reteti Elephant Sanctuary
Protecting wildlife and supporting the staff who do so is increasingly important. On Giving Tuesday, R.E.S.C.U.E teamed up with Global Giving and Northern Rangelands Trust to raise awareness and donations for orphaned elephants and their keepers in Northern Kenya.

We love this important initiative to help these gentle giants. Plus, their work is supported by the powerful imagery of our friend Ami Vitale, world-renowned photographer and Nikon Ambassador.

Sesame Street
Sesame Street is a timeless television treat and they have set a high bar for meaningful content since the 1960s. The beloved show is a true testament to how impactful visual content can be, especially as we grow.

It was a joy to scroll past this Giving Tuesday highlight from the Sesame Street family. Today, their work is more important than ever, with more children taking on the challenge of learning from home this year.

Don’t know about the Sesame Workshop? They’re “the nonprofit behind Sesame Street and so much more—a community built on diversity, equity, and inclusion, where creators, educators, partners, and unforgettable characters come together on a mission to help kids grow smarter, stronger, and kinder.”

Humane Society
Confronting animal cruelty is an honorable cause, and as it gets colder in the winter months ahead, raising awareness about the animals in need is more important now than ever. The Humane Society is dedicated to this pursuit of care, treatment and justice. While their visuals are heartbreaking, it’s photos like these that motivate their audience to act, donate and help support their cause.

Thanks to the donations they received on Giving Tuesday, more animals have a chance at a better tomorrow.

New York Cares
Since March, the team at New York Cares has dedicated their time to supporting NYC communities impacted by COVID-19. Thousands of volunteers have stepped in to help feed New Yorkers in this time of crisis and Giving Tuesday was a major moment for additional donations.

Their annual Coat Drive recently launched, too. Consider donating to this cause and help spread warmth and cheer this winter.

“At New York Cares, we believe a winter coat is not a luxury. Since 1988, we have distributed more than two million coats. Every $20 donation allows us to purchase and distribute a new coat to the New Yorkers who need them most.”

Fidelco
Fidelco’s mission is to ensure that men and women who are blind or visually impaired enjoy increased independence to improve their lives and the world around them. Their noble mission, and the dedication that these dogs hold in their hearts, didn’t start on Giving Tuesday and won’t end in 2021. It’s a lifelong commitment and it brings us so much joy.

The sleeping puppy content is a nice touch, too.

Special Olympics
Live sports may have looked a little different this year, but the Special Olympics team and all of their passionate athletes are looking ahead at a brand new year! Every donation collected on Giving Tuesday went toward meaningful training and competition opportunities, inclusive health initiatives and social inclusion in schools around the world.

Kudos to this network of change makers for pushing through the challenges of 2020 and planning for a brighter future.

Photo Start
Our team at PhotoShelter is made up of photographers, creatives and photo lovers, so this nonprofit is near and dear to our hearts.

“Photo Start uses the power of photography to give students valuable life skills that lead them to dignified employment and open up a world of opportunities.”

With the funds they raised on Giving Tuesday, Photo Start was able to add 100 more students to their program, inspiring more future photographers and providing more underprivileged children the opportunity to share their stories.

We’re proud to work with this organization.

No Kid Hungry
At a time when many families are struggling to put food on the table, No Kid Hungry shared their optimism on Giving Tuesday, a much needed boost of positivity on our social channels as this year’s challenges flood our feeds. In an effort to help children in need, they called upon their followers to be extraordinarily generous this year, to come together and push toward ending childhood hunger.

Not only does their hashtag #ExtraordinaryGenerosity highlight the influx of support this nonprofit receives from generous donors and volunteers, but it also works as a call to action for their followers to go above and beyond an everyday act of kindness on Giving Tuesday and beyond.

Save the Manatee Club
We’ve all heard of Giving Tuesday, but how about #GivingTeesday? We absolutely love this cute play on words and the movement behind the hashtag! As this team spread the word on social media, they collected donations to help sponsor research, rescue, rehabilitation, and release efforts for the manatee population.

Lin-Manuel Miranda
Lin-Manuel Miranda used his platform to get involved on Giving Tuesday, too! Instead of highlighting one charity, he started a Twitter thread highlighting a handful that are near and dear to him. Graham Windham, Hispanic Federation and The Classical Theater of Harlem were all given a shout-out and he encouraged his followers to donate and add other nonprofits to the list. Check it out!
